MCH Shop

You’ve told us how much you love everything from the linens to the decor, so we have decided to curate a one stop shop for you to turn your own home into a city hideaway.

Artwork

So many of our guests love our personal collection of art on display so we decided to introduce a couple of local artists to display their own pieces on the walls of MCH.

These pieces will change from time to time so reach out if you are interested in taking a piece home with you.

Our current resident artists are Parita Thakkar and Grace Seow – there are brochures in the draw and more information about their pieces on their websites.

Guests of My City Hideaway receive a 15% discount. DM or SMS for more details.

  • Parita is a self-taught artist. As a child she always was drawn to art and making it, but growing up in an Indian family Parita was not allowed to pursue it, as “art cannot be a career”. Years later in 2020, at age 32 after having a child; Parita finally picked up that brush to do what she always wanted to do. And in 2021, gathered the courage and took the brave step in putting her artworks out to the world. Parita is new to the ‘art industry’, but she knows she belongs here. The creative world has always been her calling.

Based in Melbourne, Parita would like to paint the world (everything). Working in Acrylic, the self-taught artist, uses her love of shadows to bring objects to life. Exploring and painting everyday objects that can be held, observed and felt, her love for still life remains constant. She finds joy in embracing brushstrokes, wonky lines and texture, as she shares her observations with the viewer.

  • Born and raised in Malaysia, Grace moved to Australia to pursue a career in medicine.

Largely a self-taught photographer, she began studying photography at the Centre of Adult Education in Melbourne. In 2017 and 2018, she spent several weeks exploring the world of street photography with world renowned photojournalist Peter Turnley. This profoundly inspired her creative journey as a photographer; to really connect with the moment, to honour the soul of the subject, and to adopt the ethos that photographs are made, not taken. More recently, she completed the Photography Academy program with editorial fine art photographer Christina Greve. She is also proud to consider Australian photographer Carla Coulson a mentor and a major influence on her photographic vision.

Her work has been exhibited at Platform Arts, The Space Gallery and Geelong Illustrator Studio. Currently part of the inaugural Laneway Photography Exhibition in Geelong.

When not decked in some form of PPE in her day job, she is an amateur gardener attempting to grow her own flowers, a sometimes baker and an aspiring francophone. She loves fried chicken, mojitos and jazz. She is also mum to a very bossy 4-legged small white fluff-ball, Ollie and PA to Mr. B.
